So how do I try to maintain that balance?
When I wake up I sometimes feel like the coming day is going to be too much for me to handle. I need to step back and find a balance. But this shouldn't be only for a day, an event, or an interaction. This balance is important to always have and maintain. By becoming unbalanced (I am not talking merely mentally) we allow ourselves to overlook the important aspects, the ones that need our attention even though it is being drawn in other often competing directions.
Your mental abilities, your intuitive knowledge, your feelings, your compassion, your ability to experience your body, your vision, your expressiveness all emanate from the right side of the brain. In order for this side of the brain to develop more completely, the left brain needs to stop a little.
Normally the capacity of the left hemisphere for order, organization, structure, linear sequencing, analysis, evaluation, accuracy, concentration, problem solving, and mathematics dominate over the other side (the right) which is less valued. This change in dominance (from left to right) results in memory holes, placing words in the wrong order, inability or desire to read very long, inability to concentrate, forget what you are about to say, impatience with linear forms of communication (audio or written formats); a sense of scattered space loss of interest in research or complex information, the feeling of being bombarded with words and information, and a reluctance to write. Sometimes you feel dull and have no interest in analysis, lively intellectual debate, or investigation. On the other hand, you might find yourself attracted to what requires more your five senses: videos, magazines with photos, beautiful illustrations, movies, music, sculpture, painting, being with people, dancing, gardening, walking, and others. These are all forms of kinesthetic expression.
Our desires and thoughts manifest themselves physically more quickly and effectively. You may discover, like I did, that if you let your heart and the right side of your brain lead you, the left side will then be activated appropriately to support you.
So how? Some of the ways I have been able to do this is engage with my husband at a deeper level. Our newfound parenthood has also forced me to look at things different. I have to feel with my heart/emotion when I try to understand my son. If you don't have these options in your life you can become closer to animals and plants. For some people, animals now seem to be more "human" in their behavior. Wild animals are less scary. Plants respond to your love and attention more than ever. Some may even have messages for you. My first ones sure did. "Stop watering us so much!"
Use your inner guides to find out what you need and when. Take off your shoes and put your feet in the grass for a few minutes.
One day we will be well balanced, using both hemispheres with mastery.
Keep in mind that it's best to remember only what comes to mind, leave the rest alone, don't analyze everything indefinitely (because you'll be stuck in that loop, where you spend all of your time to process the matter), and feel your feelings as they come.
